What Is Your Favorite Paradox?

Currently, my favorite would be the Crocodile Dilemma.

A crocodile steals a child and offers the father a challenge. If the father can predict what the crocodile will do next, the child will be returned. The father predicts the crocodile will not return the child.

What does the crocodile do?

  1. Nice one. What does the crocodile do? Probably going to eat the kid :)

  2. I'd hate to be the father in this situation

  3. He is not going to return the kid, for "not returning the kid"was not what he was going to do next, not how he planned to do it. He planned to return the kid, so the correct answer for the father to say should have been:
    You are going to return the kid.

  10. Let x = 1

    Then, x2=x

    x2-1 = x-1

    Dividing both sides by (x-1), we get

    x+1 = 1

    x+1-1 = 0

    Since x=1,

    1=0

  14. @wompa at the begining X also can also = 0, when you divide by (x-1) you lose the second solution. just gotta remember some tricky algebra

  15. Howdy! Just wanted to say that I like your blog's empty designs. Kind of unique. You need to fiddle with the text placement thou

  18. @Wompa:
    You have to remember how to divide by variables You're taking (2x-1) and dividing it by (x-1), by factoring out the 2, you're left with 2(x-0.5)/(x-1), which cannot be easily divided.
